DEPRESSED OR LAZY?

I've been going through a rough period.

I got off one antidepressant in order to gain some energy - and then lost almost everything in the process.

I'm getting my feet back under me - am seeing another psychiatrist - but the lost energy is simply not coming back yet.

But is that depression, or am I simply being lazy?

It's hot, and easy to feel this way (the heat takes everything away from you).

Or is it lack of any ambition on my part?

DOMESTIC DISTURBANCE

"Any abusive, violent, coercive, forceful, or threatening act or word inflicted by one member of a family or household on another can constitute domestic violence."

Today, I freely admit I committed domestic disturbance.

I threatened my poor damaged and urine-stained carpet with the vacuum.

I abusively and violently attacked the floors with a broom.

And I swore violently at the various dust-bunnies, the cobwebs hiding up in the corners, and the permanent scars all around my house.

Okay, go ahead and call 911.

PULLING OUT THE VERY LAST TRICK

When people talk about talents, they generally are referring to something musical, like playing an instrument or singing - or physical attributes, such as being a strong basketball player, or running - and sometimes crocheting, sewing or making really good brownies.

When pressed, I will admit my one true talent.

I can put babies to sleep.

I honestly don't think it's really a talent - I just am an exceptionally boring person, and they just give up shortly after discovering that.

But I am a good person to give a fussy baby to during church services.

And so I do end up with one of the Campbell twins on my shoulder almost every Sunday.

Today, I literally got to the end of my rope.

My regular rocking wasn't taking hold.

The walking and rocking didn't either.

The walking, rocking and rhythmically shussing ... hmm, no.

Finally got to the very last one.

Singing the Mockingbird Song.

UNCONQUERED

"For to be free is not merely to cast off one's chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others." - Nelson Mandela

Last night we watched "Invictus" on the pay-per-view channel. I had seen the previews when the movie was still in theaters, love Morgan Freeman (especially when he plays God), and even had on hand a rugby enthuiastic (my son-in-law) to translate for me.

"Invictus" is not a movie about the Rugby World Cup in 1995 South Africa - it's a movie about the incredible Nelson Mandela.

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll.
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

THE VOICE OF GOD

Morgan Freeman is going the voice-over for a Visa commercial - it combines the Olympics, a family death, victory, and an adorable beautiful baby girl with that sublime, lower-than-low intonation of his.

It's like saying no to Benjamin Kinsley when he is dressed as Gandhi.

It would be refusing to have Helen Mirren as Queen Elisabeth sit down in your presence.

Or to take Eddie Murphy seriously.

Wait a minute, am I that influenced by actors? Or is just voices?

I kinda like the fact that almost everyone doesn't like hearing their own voice - well, people over the age of eight. And aren't heading towards a career in broadcasting.

Some voices just are iconic - like Orson Welles, James Earl Jones, Jimmy Stewart. Mae West is the epitome of sultry, sexy female - Sandra Bullock is the all-American mid-west girl.

(And Meg Ryan's voice is just annoying - I do like her, a lot, but I don't like her voice - only exception is a couple of good lines from "French Kiss")

So give me your honest opinion - who does the best God voice? Morgan Freeman - George Burns (does anyone besides me remember that one, with John Denver?) - Graham Chapman (Holy Grail) - and can anyone think of anyone else?

And I promise you, if anyone is gonna be struck by lightening, it's gonna be ME, not you!
